Activities

Some places ask you to fill your days. We'd rather you emptied them.

Life at Quinta da Boa Esperança moves at the pace of the vineyard — long breakfasts, unhurried walks between century-old vines, an afternoon that asks nothing of you. Most of what's worth doing is already here, within the walls of a working estate where the rhythm of the land sets the schedule.

But when the mood to wander strikes, you're well placed for it. Torres Vedras and the Atlantic coast sit close by, Lisbon just 45 minutes away, and a handful of beaches, and old-town corners reward the curious. We've gathered the ones we'd send a friend to — no more, no less.

For those who like to walk the course as well as the vineyard, two of the region's finest lie within easy reach. CampoReal, around twenty minutes away, offers a mature, tree-lined layout that rewards a patient game close to home. For something more dramatic, West Cliffs — about forty minutes north — is carved into the dunes above the Atlantic, a modern links where the wind is very much the third player. We're happy to arrange tee times in advance, so a morning on the green slips seamlessly into an afternoon back at the estate.

Golf

Some of the finest walking in the region starts where you're standing. Trails thread through the vineyard and across the estate's gentle slopes, where the only traffic is birdsong and the light shifting over the vines — go at dawn for the quiet, or late afternoon as the heat softens. A trail map is in your room.

When you're ready to range further, the hills above Torres Vedras open onto the old Lines — the Napoleonic forts that once guarded Lisbon — and footpaths with long views over the patchwork of farmland below. We can arrange a guide for a half-day on foot, then have you back at the estate with the rest of the day unhurried and yours.

Walking Tours

Just along the coast, the Atlantic delivers some of Portugal's most reliable surf — and as guests of the estate, our friends at Lapoint, one of the most respected surf schools on this stretch of shoreline are happy to receive you. Whether you're stepping onto a board for the first time or chasing a cleaner line, their instructors make the water feel like an old friend, with all equipment provided. We'll help you arrange a session and time it around the day here, so you're back among the vines by lunch — salt still in your hair, the afternoon yours to do nothing with.
